A Time Dependent Device for Segmental Whole Gut for Lumina & Mucosal Microbial Swab Sampling by Anatomic Location

Technology #2012-169

Swabs from the middle portions of the gastrointestinal tract are currently very difficult to obtain due to the limitations of current techniques such as endoscopy. Understanding the biology of these regions can potentially have a large impact on the overall health of both people and animals through the effect of the GI tract on other parts of the body. Mayo Clinic investigators have described a minimally invasive device to collect samples from along the GI tract. This device could also be used to deliver medicaments to specific target locations.
