Erectile dysfunction (ED) is estimated to affect 20-30% of men between the ages of 40-80 years. In cases of medication-resistant ED, surgical treatment, and especially penile prosthesis implantation is the standard of care. Complications of surgery can include neurovascular and urethral injury, and other tissue damage that can contribute to sub-optimal outcomes. A Mayo Clinic investigator has designed an improved system for implanting a penile prosthesis with the aim of increasing patient safety and providing better surgical outcomes. A patent application has been filed.
