Ileostomy patients with highly liquid effluent can experience high frequency emptying requirements that can be inconvenient to patients. This invention is a dual chamber ostomy pouch with the chambers separated by a filter. The filter allows water to pass into the second chamber while containing solid waste in the first chamber. The chambers can have separate drain valves allowing them to be emptied independently. Alternatively, the second chamber could have the only drain valve, and the solid waste would be discarded when the pouch was replaced. The liquid waste would be filtered to a degree that reduced odor and minimized concern over sanitary issues during the emptying process. See attached figure for additional details.
