Propagation of shear wave (e.g., frequency dependent propagation speed and attenuation) in tissues is determined by mechanical properties of tissues. In ultrasound elasticity imaging, focused ultrasound beams are used to generate and detect shear waves in tissues. The 3D shape of the ultrasound beam can artificially increase measured shear wave speed in the transducer near field and overestimate tissue stiffness.
