In dual-energy imaging, individually reconstructed images from the low- and high-energy acquisitions can be linearly combined to produce a weighted average of the respective images. This disclosure describes an optimization scheme and software tool to select the optimal weighting value. Optimization can be performed using a variety of criteria, including minimizing image noise, maximizing the contrast-to-noise ratio, or material decomposition accuracy in dual-energy processed images.
